First and foremost, we hope you're safe. If you're involved in an accident, please follow these steps once it is safe to do so:
- Ensure your safety: Move to a safe location.
- Document the scene: Take clear photos of all damage and the accident surroundings.
- Contact the authorities: If required by local law, contact the police to file an official accident report. Always call 911 if the third party does not stop or if a tow is needed. Members are required to exchange information with any third party involved in the accident.

Gather necessary information: Collect all details outlined in Section 7.4 of the Rules of Vehicle Use:
○ Date, time, and location of the incident
○ License plate, make, model year, VIN, and insurance info of all vehicles involved
○ Third Party's contact details
○ Contact information for witnesses, passengers, and others involved
○ Brief summary of the incident
○ Police report (if required) - Notify Zipcar: Call us immediately at 866-4ZIPCAR (866-494-7227) to report the incident.
- Complete an incident report: After your call, you’ll receive an email and a text message with a link to submit a full incident report.
Here are some things to know or keep in mind as we process the accident report:
- Account Status: Your Zipcar account will be suspended while we await your incident report. Once we receive your report, we will review your account and provide an update on your suspension within 3 business days.
- Vehicle Inspection: Zipcar will assess the vehicle for any damage and arrange for necessary repairs.
