What is the Zipcar Membership Beta?

We’re introducing a new membership beta program to give members more flexibility and perks. In addition to our Standard plan, select members can now choose from two new plans: Lite ($5/month) or Plus ($19/month). 

What is the Membership Beta? 

The Membership Beta allows select members to join one of our new plans: Lite or Plus. These plans are designed to fit different driving needs—whether you drive occasionally or often.

• Lite: Best for local, occasional trips. Monthly only offering.
• Standard: Our always-on membership offering, with options for monthly or annual memberships.
• Plus: Perfect for frequent drivers looking for extra value and perks. Monthly only offering.

If you are an existing Zipcar member, you’ll see the new plans available when managing your plan in the Membership section of your Account Settings. 

What do I get with the Lite and Plus plans? 

Lite ($5/month)

• 50 miles/day included
• Gas & secondary insurance included
• Cancellation requires 24 hr. advance notice
• No additional drivers 

Plus ($19/month)

• 300 miles/day included
• Gas & secondary insurance included
• 15-minute early access to trips
• $10 monthly driving credit (expires each month)
• 1 additional driver included + up to 2 more at 50% off
• Flexible trip cancellation (same-day for trips under 8 hours, 24 hours for longer trips)

Can I change plans during the beta? 

Yes! Members can self-service plan changes through their Zipcar account.

• Upgrading: When moving to a higher plan (Lite → Plus), the amount you already paid for the lower plan will be prorated toward your upgrade.
• Downgrading: When moving to a lower plan (Plus → Lite), the change will take effect at the next billing cycle.

Can I stay on my current Standard plan? 

Absolutely. If you’re happy with your Standard plan, no action is needed. You can switch to Lite or Plus anytime during the beta if you want to explore the new benefits. 

How do I add extra drivers? 

Lite plan members cannot add any additional drivers to their account. 

Standard members can add up to 1 additional driver at 50% off the monthly membership cost.

Plus plan members can add up to 3 additional drivers to their account. The first driver will be at no additional membership cost, the second and third drivers will be at 50% off the month membership plan cost. 

How does the $10 monthly driving credit work on Plus? 

We’ll add your $10 driving credit to your account on the first day of your billing cycle. You can use it on any reservation, as long as the trip is booked within the 30-day window—even if the reservation occurs later. 

What are the mileage overage rates? 

Mileage overage rates are the same across all plan options: $.67 per mile over the amount included with your membership plan.

Will there be an annual option? 

Currently, Lite and Plus are monthly-only plans. Annual memberships are not yet available for these tiers.
